Summer on San Francisco Bay.
Fourteen years ago, I organized the last Nationals on San Francisco
Bay. I'm glad to have the chance to put that knowledge to work one more
time for the Snipe Class and for Fleet 12. .
I've always felt the Snipe Class was special. Its been the boat in
which I've had the most fun bar none. I sailed with both my kids when
we were all considerably younger and then I watched them go on to win
the Junior Nationals. .
Here's what we have planned: .
The racing will be challenging. For those of you who sailed here in
1995, we're hoping to have conditions that more nearly match those in
which the Juniors and the women sailed over the weekend, rather than
the upper edge of breeze we saw for much of the Nationals. "Got Wind?"
is our motto this time around and I'm sure we'll have plenty. Look for
the wind strength chart I put together from the summer of 2007 to see
what we are hoping for this year. .
The social program will be extensive. We are looking to offer something
every night of the regatta including one off campus trip (its still a
secret). Susan Odell is in charge of our on shore activities and I know
we'll have lots of fun. .
Beyond Richmond Yacht Club there is lots to see and do around the Bay.
Take a day after the regatta and go visit the wine country just north
of here. Take another day and visit Golden Gate National Recreation
area for some spectacular scenery and wonderful hiking. And of course,
there is San Francisco itself with art, theater and great food. .
Come sail with us this summer. .
